A small offering of cattle sold well at Kaikohe on Wednesday, despite very wet conditions underfoot limiting the buying bench.

The low numbers helped the market however, with about 220 offered, mainly in small lines.

Feature lines included R2 Charolais-South Devon steers, 530kg, which sold for $2.70-$2.76/kg, with most of the age group trading at $2.70-$2.80/kg. These stayed local as buyers restocked after finishing other cattle.

In the R2 heifer pens, a quality line of Angus-Friesian, 410kg, earned $2.66/kg. Demand was very high for R1 exotic-cross steers, 297kg, which fetched $1010, $3.40/kg.

In-calf boner cows were of good quality and at 530-540kg, returned $2.40/kg, empty lines $2.05-$2.10/kg.
