Dry conditions affected the market at the Feilding store sale last Friday. The overall quality of the stock, and limited feed for many wanting to buy, meant the market for both sheep and cattle generally eased.

Store lambs eased by about 10cpk, with much of the yarding in plain condition. Almost 19,000 lambs were offered and most traded at $65-$85, with the heaviest lambs $92.50-$93. A few useful run-with-the-ram Romney two-tooth ewes sold for $128 but most of the ewes were ordinary.

The cattle market generally eased with about 1500 on offer. Good traditional steers were firm, but R2 cattle eased up to 10cpk. Most R3 steers earned $2.75-$2.85/kg, while Angus R2, 385-495kg, fetched $2.86-$3.09/kg.

More than 200 bulls also eased. Top R2 Friesian bulls sold for $1520, $2.69/kg, and five Hereford-Friesian reached $1600, $2.76/kg. Friesian weaner bulls, 226kg, returned $730.

The stand-out in the R2 heifer section was a line of Charolais-cross, 422kg, that earned $1200, $2.84/kg. Charolais-cross also topped the weaner heifer section at $755.
