Most were from one property, Craiglochart, west of Blenheim, and were well-bred, good quality lambs. The market was well supported by buyers from Central Otago, Nelson and local, with results very pleasing, Peter Barnes, Livestock Manager for PGG Wrightson Marlborough, reported.
Of the 3800 lambs offered, 3500 were one ear-mark line, though drafted into whiteface and blackface. The top Romney male lambs sold for $80-$81, with blackface-Romney making $83.50. Overall prices ranged from $47-$83.50, with most trading at $70-$75, at an estimated average of $2.70/kgLW. The remaining 300 lambs came from the Clarence area due to the earthquake, and sold well also. Around 800 of the lambs headed to Central Otago, with 1300 to Nelson and the remainder staying local.
