Australian SMP exports grow 35.9%, value declines

Australian cumulative season dairy exports (July-September) have increased by 6.7% in volume terms and 6.6% in value terms compared to the same period a year earlier latest data released by Dairy Australia shows. Skim milk powder (SMP) showed the biggest increase in volume terms with a 35.9% increase to 38,870t. The value of SMP exported, however, between July-September dropped by 6%. SMP is the second largest dairy export category by volume for the period behind milk and has the second highest value behind other cheeses.

Cumulative cheddar exports increased by 8.8% in volume terms and 5% in value terms, while other cheese exported increased by 17.5% to 25,334t and increased in value terms by 16.9% making it the highest dairy export earner for the period with a cumulative value of AU$126,612,734.

Butter, butter oil and whey products showed large falls in cumulative exports in both volume terms and value terms. The respective falls on a tonnage basis were -27%, -33.5%, and -39.8% and on a value basis were -22.3%, -22.7%, and -17.7%.

Milk exports had the highest cumulative volume with 40,870t, up 3.8% from the same period last year. The value also increased, by 11.5% but ranks as 6th highest dairy export earner over the period.
